As a parent of two students who have had a terrific experience in CMS, I am grateful for Elyse’s willingness to lead and serve. As a nonprofit consultant who cares deeply about education and community, I volunteered to support Elyse Dashew because she is a smart, collaborative leader who understands the complexities in education today.

I met Elyse through our work together at GenerationNation when I was in high school. As a member of my community, even only being 19 and a college sophmore, I wanted to join Elyse’s team because civic engagement is important. Civic engagement allows you to see who is truly fighting for you and I saw my fight best vocalized in Elyse.

With two children of my own in CMS I have a natural interest in local education. But I also believe that public ed has to be successful for all children, not just mine. I’ve known Elyse for years as a parent and leader. Because of her intelligence, passion and creativity, I fully support her ambition to join the school board and strengthen the bridge between education and Charlotte’s future.

From our first conversation years ago I saw Elyse’s passion for public education. She understands the challenges facing our system, from inundation of standardized testing to retaining quality teachers. Elyse is by far the strongest public school advocate I have known. As a CMS teacher, it’s comforting to know someone listens to us and fights for us while we continue to do our best in the classroom.

As a retired CMS teacher, when Elyse asked me if I could do some images of campaign events, I was excited to join her team. Elyse has the spirit, intelligence, and work ethic that exemplified my SeaBee Battalion MCB-1 and its famous motto “Can Do.” I’ve seen her participation in her children’s school and her support of teachers firsthand over the years and I support Elyse to “Can Do” for the CMS School Board.
